Elk River's Tyler Macomber to Make Gopher-CSU Tilt

Tyler Macomber, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver from Elk River, is one of the top two-sport athletes in the state. Macomber plans to attend the Minnesota-Colorado State football game this upcoming week and is getting some interest from the Gophers along with several other Midwest programs.

Tyler Macomber caught 42 passes for 492 yards (11.7 yards per reception) with six touchdowns last season as he led the Elks to a 4-6 mark, losing to Champlin Park in the Class 5A, Section 7 quarterfinals.

Macomber is also a standout basketball player who averaged 17 points and 8.6 rebounds per game as the Elk River finished 18-11. They came up one game short of making the state tournament as they lost to Maple Grove in the Section 8AAAA championship game, losing 63-58.

Macomber did not get many opportunities in their season-opening 32-7 loss to Andover as Elk River has a new quarterback who was learning on the job.

Macomber visited Iowa State this weekend and plans to attend the Minnesota-Colorado State football game this weekend. His teammate, Justin Jenson, a 6-foot-7, 337-pound tackle, has committed to the Gophers. Macomber is also planning on checking out the North Dakota-Nebraska-Omaha game later this month.

Macomber said that he is hearing from Iowa State, Augustana, North Dakota, Minnesota-Duluth and South Dakota State in football and is hearing from Augustana and St. Cloud State in both sports.

Macomber did not attend any football camps, which may have hurt his recruitment, as he was playing basketball with the Elk River AAU team in the state tournament and a tournament in North Dakota.

Macomber is an excellent student who made the honor roll both semesters last season. He runs a 4.7 40-yard dash and has a 35-inch vertical.
