Kimuel Royston Attends Gopher FB Game

Kimuel Royston, a 5-11, 180-pound wide receiver/defensive back from St. Paul (MN) Cretin Derham Hall, committed to Wisconsin in late June. However, Royston attended the Minnesota Gopher-Colorado State game this Saturday. GoldenSports.Net cuaght up with Royston to find out the latest on his recruitment and his senior season.

Kimuel Royston has helped lead the Raiders to a 1-1 start. He caught four passes for 84 yards in their season-opening 24-0 win over Hastings. Royston scored the team's first touchdown with a 2-yard run.

Royston caught four passes for 59 yards and scored on a 24-yard interception return in Friday's 37-19 loss to Wayzata, a team that has had the Raiders' number. The Raiders lost to eventual state runner-up Wayzata in the state quarterfinals, 34-27 last season. They also lost to Wayzata 33-22 in the regular season.

Royston attended the Minnesota Gopher camp last season and his mom and both grandmothers attended Minnesota. However, he enjoyed his time at the Wisconsin Badger camp and the college atmosphere of Camp Randall Stadium and committed to Wisconsin in late June. Cretin Derham Hall does not have an on-campus facility and playing on campus was attractive to him, especially since the Gophers have to play their home games in the Metrodome.

Royston had offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas, Indiana, Iowa State and Oregon before committing to the Badgers.

GoldenSports.net caught up with Royston Saturday.

Tough loss against a Wayzata team that you seem to have good games against, but have not been able to get over the hump against.

"They are a tough team, but hopefully we get to see them in the playoffs again."

Who do you play this upcoming weekend?

"Roseville. They went into overtime against Hastings and lost by one. Hopefully, we get back on the winning track."

You had a score Friday and one in the opening game. How do you think that you played this year so far?

"I think that I've been playing pretty good. I just like to take away that one side of the field and do a little bit on offense."

I know that there was some talk about your commitment after Alvarez announced that he was stepping down at the end of the season. Is that still 100%?

"I'm sure about Wisconsin, but I just want to be sure.

Have you set up a time for your official visit?

"No, but that is in the process. I talked to him (Alvarez) a couple of days ago and we are getting that sorted out.

Do you plan to visit any other colleges?

"I'm not sure about that."
