Hastings QB Kranz Gets Recruiting Attention

Jake Kranz, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound quarterback from Hastings (MN) High, is one of the top signal callers in the state. He has led the Raiders to a 5-1 start after a 34-26 victory over Mounds View Friday night. Kranz attended the Minnesota-Purdue game and GoldenSports.net recently caught with him on Thursday to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Jake Kranz led the Raiders to 9-2 mark as a junior before being upset by Woodbury in Class 5A, Section 3 Finals. Kranz paced the team to the Suburban East title and he was named first-team All-Conference.

Kranz attended camps at Minnesota, Iowa State, Wisconsin and St. Cloud State this summer. He also attended the Nike Camp in Palo Alto, California.

Kranz attended the Minnesota-Purdue home game two weeks ago and also attended the St. Cloud State-Minnesota Mankato contest later that night. Both schools have offered him a scholarship, although Kranz said that he was not totally sure if it was a full or partial scholarship.

Kranz said that he received a phone call from South Dakota Thursday. He also hears from St. Cloud State and Minnesota Mankato and said that North Dakota State stopped at his school this week.

Kranz is undecided about where he will be playing football next season.

"I have no favorite. I'm keeping my options open."

Kranz said that he was looking forward to their game against Mounds View.

"It's a big game. (Mounds View quarterback) Adam Webber is a pretty good friend of mine. Webber has some pretty good skills."

Kranz is also a standout basketball player. He is a two-year starter for the Raiders, who were one of the most improved teams in the state as they went from going 3-23 in 2003-04 to 17-11 last season, losing to Lakeville in the Section 1, Class 4A second round.

Kranz averaged 14.2 points per game, but he missed the final eight games of the season after suffering a broken right (throwing) hand in a game versus Mounds View.

"I shattered it against the backboard, blocking a shot."

Kranz has not attended any other college games, due to taking an ACT course on Saturdays. He is planning on taking the ACT October 22nd. Kranz is a 3.1 student who said that is looking into a teaching career or something in real estate.

Kranz entered the Mounds View game, completing 33 of 76 passes for 526 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions. He has three rushing touchdowns.
