Bryant Williams Will Attend Gopher Game

Bryant Williams, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver/cornerback from Edina (MN) High, is one of the state's top two-sport athletes. Williams is playing for the Hornets this season after transferring from Minneapolis (MN) North. His strong performance at a Big Ten team's football camp and solid senior season has earned him recruiting interest in football. Williams plans to attend the Minnesota-Wisconsin football game this Saturday and GoldenSports.Net found out the latest on his recruitment.

Bryant Williams helped lead the Polars to a 5-4 mark as a junior. He caught 29 passes for 576 yards with five scores and also served as the team's kicker and punter.

Williams decided to transfer to Edina, which is known for its strong academics and passing attack. The Hornets finished 3-6 last season, but are off to a 4-2 start this season.

Williams has caught 26 passes for 498 yards in six games. He has nine touchdowns. Williams scored five touchdowns in the season-opening loss to Chippewa Falls (WI) High 49-42 in their season opener. Williams scored on 13- and 9-yard touchdown runs and caught a 44-, 69- and 58-yard touchdown passes.

Williams had three touchdowns in their 42-23 over Minneapolis Washburn. He scored on 31- and 64-yard touchdown passes and on an 82-yard kickoff return.

Williams scored on a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown in their 35-29 win over Armstrong last Friday. He rushed eight times for 59 yards and caught one pass for zero yards. Williams has 36 carries for 138 yards (3.8 yards per carry).

Williams also played basketball for North and helped lead them to a 22-4 mark and the Class AAAA, Section 5 finals before losing to Mounds View. He averaged 10.3 points per game. Williams was expected to be a key contributor for the Polars, who lost just one of their top eight scorers to graduation before his transfer.

Edina was a disapointing 12-15 under first-year head coach Pat Dorsey.

Williams played for the Howard Pulley AAU team at the Boo Williams Invitational, Kingwood Classic and Sabes Invitational. His solid play earned him a scholarship offer from Montana State.

However, Williams decided to skip the Nike Peach Jam to attend the Michigan State football camp. He shined at the Spartans' camp and could receive a scholarship offer once he gets a passing college entrance test score. Williams has yet to take the ACT or SAT, but plans to take the test at the end of the month. A passing score could raise his recruitment and provide several scholarship offers. He is also receiving football interest from Central Florida, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Iowa State and Minnesota.

Williams has a 2.4 GPA.
