Freshman Jamal Abu Shamala Given Scholarship

Jamal Abu-Shamala, a 6-foot-5 freshman from Shakopee, has been awarded a scholarship at Minnesota. Abu-Shamala, who led the Sabers to the Class AAA state title and he was named first-team All-Metro by the Minneapolis Star Tribune, bypassed several Division I and II offers to walk-on. He scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the 57-46 championship win over Richfield. The Gophers have 13 players under scholarship for the 2005-06 season. The following is a look at the Gopher roster.
