MN Junior Shane Potter Gets Midwest Interest

Shane Potter, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior wide receiver from Becker (MN) High, caught seven passes for 147 yards with one touchdown to lead the Bulldogs to a 21-3 win over Glencoe-Silver Lake Friday in the semifinals of the Class AAA football tournament. They will advance to next Friday's Prep Bowl.

Shane Potter is considered one of the top juniors in the state. Potter has caught 39 passes for 692 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns so far this season. He has over 200 rushing yards and also is a standout defensive back.

Becker improved to 13-0 with the win and is ranked #1 in Class AAA. They will attempt to win their first Prep Bowl next Friday. They have finished runner-up four times, including last year.

Potter has been plagued by injuries in Becker's tournament runs the past two seasons. He was injured in a 10-6 loss to Glencoe in the 2003 semifinals. He fractured his ankle in three places in Becker's semifinal victory last year, then tried to play in the final against East Grand Forks, but had to leave after one series of a 31-14 loss.

Potter told GoldenSports.Net that he is hearing from Big Ten schools such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Ohio State, along with Georgia Tech and Louisville. He attended Minnesota's camp this summer.

Potter also play basketball for the Bulldogs, who finished 15-12 last season. He has ran track in the past, but is leaning towards playing baseball this spring.

Potter runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and bench presses 225 pounds. He comes from a football family. Oldest brother Kyle played at Fergus Falls Community College and Derek, who played last year for Becker, redshirted at Division II St. Cloud State at linebacker. Derek was an All-State selection as a junior and had gotten some early Minnesota interest.
