The Skippers are led by sophomores Tucker and fellow classmates C.J. Erickson and Andy Burns. Tucker shot better than 41 percent from three-point range and pulled down 3.5 rebounds per game. Tucker was the first freshman to be named unanimous all-conference in the Classic Lake Conference and is already receiving interest from several Division I schools.
The 6-foot-6 Erickson became a starter in the middle of the season, but broke his foot in early February. Burns split time between the varsity and junior varsity last season, but will run the team at point guard.
Tucker scored 24 points in the Skippers' season-opening 86-67 win over Roseville.
You played with the 43 Hoops AAU team this summer. What were some of the things that you worked on during the offseason to improve your game?
"I tried to work on getting quicker and stronger. Working on my pull-up jump shots and my mid-range game."
You have a young team with three sophomores in the starting lineup that played together as a freshman. Is that going to help you this year?
"It should help a lot come playoff time. We just play hard as a team and we have good team chemistry."
You guys have had some tough games in the non-conference schedule. Is that going to help you once conference play begins?
"Intense non-conference games prepare us for conference games. Like playing at Hopkins, playing at Wayzata."
I know that it is early with you being only a sophomore, but what teams are you hearing from so far?
Did you have a favorite team growing up?
"I just like to watch basketball, so not really."
Are you originally from Minnesota?
"I was born in Wisconsin, but I have pretty much lived in Minnesota my whole life."
What about this upcoming summer? I know that you are planning on playing for 43 Hoops. Are you planning on playing in any individual type camps?
"I'm going to the adidas Superstar Camp (Suwanee, Georgia) and just traveling with 43 Hoops.
