Cretin OT Matt Slater is Still Available

Matt Slater, a 6-foot-6, 245-pound offensive tackle from St. Paul (MN) Cretin Derham Hall, helped lead the Raiders to an 11-2 record and a spot in the Prep Bowl this season. Slater attended several Minnesota games and made trips to Indiana and Northwestern this season. However, he is not signing Wednesday on the first day of the football signing period. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Slater to find the latest on his recruitment.

Matt Slater has received a scholarship offer from Indiana and Division II offers from Winona State and Minnesota Mankato. He attended the Indiana-Kentucky game and the Northwestern-Wisconsin contest and several Gopher games this season.

Slater also plays lacrosse. He is a two-year starter for the Raiders, who finished 8-4 in the 2004 season as they advanced to state quarterfinals, where they lost to Class 5A eventual runner-up Wayzata 34-27.

"I am not signing tomorrow. I will likely walk-on at a Division I school," Slater said.

Slater visited North Dakota, but decided to hold out for a Division I opportunity. He said that Minnesota is not a possibility as a walk-on.
