RB Ken Thompson Will Walk-On at Minnesota

Ken Thompson, a 5-foot-11, 180 pound running back from Cottage Grove (MN) Park, will walk-on to Minnesota, according to Wolfpack head coach Doug Ekmark. Thompson was the leading rusher the past two seasons for Park and played the past three seasons.

Ken Thompson rushed for over 1,000 yards this season as he led Park to a 4-6 mark.

Park head coach Doug Ekmark said that Thompson heard from most of the Division II schools in the state, especially Minnesota State Mankato (who offered a scholarship) and St. Cloud State. Ekmark said that most of the North Central Conference has expressed interest in him.

Ekmark said that the opportunity to play Division I football was too much for Thompson to pass on.

"He really wanted to go to the University."

Ekmark said that Thompson really stood out in big games for the Wolfpack.

"He had his best games against bigger teams and in big games. He had 211 yards against Stillwater in the second round of the playoffs and 181 yards against Tartan (in the playoff opener). He had 284 yards (on 20 carries) against Hastings as a junior.

Ekmark said that Thompson will play running back in college, but could switch to cornerback.

Ekmark said that Thompson is also a standout sprinter on the Wolfpack track team.

Thompson ran a 11.46 100 meter dash and 23.18 200 meter dash at the Park Boys Quadrangular in May and high jumped 5-foot-8 at the Park Pentangular.
