Marcus Brumm Gets Gopher Interest

Marcus Brumm, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound quarterback from Lakeville (MN) South, attended the Minnesota Gopher Junior Day and watched the Gophers face Michigan State Saturday. Brumm was named second-team All-Metro by the Minneapolis Star Tribune after leading the Cougars to a 7-5 mark in the school's first year of existence and a Section 1, Class 4A title. Marcus Brumm led Lakeville South to a 7-5 record this season after the Cougars started the season 0-2. Brumm paced the Cougars to a 24-19 win over Lakeville North in the first ever meeting of the two teams since spltting into two schools. Brumm threw two touchdowns in the win and ran a two-point conversion.

Lakeville South lost their next two games to fall to 1-4 before winning their next six games, including their three playoff contests by a 128-48 margin. The Cougars lost to eventual Class 4A champion Mahtomedi 20-13 after leading 13-7 going into the fourth quarter as Brumm threw two touchdowns.

Brumm completed 174 of 319 (54.5%) passes for 2,415 yards with 24 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Lakeville South, which did not have any seniors on their roster, will return all 22 starts and figure to be one of the top teams in the state. They will move up to Class 5A, a year earlier than mandated.

Brumm led Lakeville to a 5-5 mark as a sophomore, losing to Rochester Century 20-13 in the second round.

Brumm is also a standout basketball player for Lakeville South. He has led the Cougars to an 11-9 mark as he is averaging a team-best 14.5 points per game. Brumm has scored in double figures 15 times and has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 11 games. Brumm has scored 20 or more points three times, including 20 in the Cougars' win Friday over Rosemount.

Brumm averaged a team-high 12.4 points per game last season for Lakeville as the Panthers finished 22-6, losing to Eagan in the Section 1, Class 4A championship game 56-49 after leading 25-15 at halftime.

Brumm came off the bench as a freshman as the Panthers finshed just 18-14, but finished in third place in the Class AAAA tournament.

Brumm had a strong summer with the Minnesota Magic 16-and-under AAU team that finished runner-up in the Hoosier Shootout, in the semifinals of the Kentucky Hoopfest and to the Las Vegas Main Event championship.

Brumm told GoldenSports.Net that he is hearing from Iowa, Minnesota, Wyoming, BYU, Iowa State and Notre Dame. He said that Notre Dame and Wyoimng recently stopped by the school. Augustana, a Division II school in South Dakota, has shown interest in Brumm. Augustana has recruited several Lakeville players, including Kevin Kaesviharn, who is with the Cincinnati Bengals.
