Andre Tate` Commits to Minnesota

Andre Tate`, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound running back from Mendota Heights (MN) Henry Sibley, has committed to Minnesota. Tate`, who is one of the state's top rushers, recently attended the Gopher Junior Day game versus Michigan State and watched Minnesota defeat the Spartans in basketball.

Andre Tate` rushed 247 times for 1,157 yards (4.7 yards per carry) and 13 touchdowns as he led the Warriors to a 4-5 mark. He was named to the Classic Suburban All-Conference team. He caught seven passes for 147 yards and one additional score.

Tate` paced the team to 5-6 mark as a part-time player as a sophomore and led the Warrriors to the Class 5A, Section 5 Finals.

Henry Sibley figures to be one of the most improved teams in the state next season as they will return standout quarterback Phil Haig, who recently received a scholarship offer from the Gophers. However, Tate` told GoldenSports.Net that they will need to replace some key losses.

"We will miss a few linemen and are thin at wide receiver. We need some big guys to step up."

Tate` had told GoldenSports.Net that he was hearing from a variety of schools.

"I've heard from North Dakota State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame."

Tate plans to attend camps at Minnesota this summer.

Tate said that he is still debating about running track this spring. He finished with a 24.07 200-yard dash and a 50.52 400-yard dash in the Class 2AAA True Team Championship.

Tate said that he is working with a personal trainer to prepare for his senior season and college.
