Ex-Gopher Rico Tucker Transfers to Pepperdine

Rico Tucker, a 6-foot sophomore guard who played the past two seasons at Minnesota, will transfer to Pepperdine, according to his father Terry Tucker. Tucker, who sat out the first four regular-season games because of academic problems, played in 27 games and started two for the Gophers this season.

Rico Tucker averaged 4.5 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He had a season-high 17 points against Wisconsin.

As a freshman, Tucker averaged 5.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and led all Big Ten freshmen with 1.4 steals a game. But his playing time decreased toward the end of the season after a bout with Graves' disease, which affects the thyroid gland.

Tucker picked Pepperdine over Long Beach State and Fresno State. All three schools play a four-out, one-in offense that Tucker thought would better showcase his defense and athletic abilities.
