MN C Jared Berggren Receives Big Ten Offer

Rising junior Jared Berggren, a 6-foot-10 center, has been offered a scholarship from Wisconsin after recently attending the Badgers' team camp. Berggren averaged 10.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game as a sophomore. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Berggren at the Minnesota team camp to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Jared Berggren shot 55.0% from the field and 55.1% from the line as Princeton finished 15-13 last season. He will be asked to carry more of the offensive load with the graduation of Scott Roehl, a 6-foot-7 senior, who averaged 19.4 points and 12 rebounds per game this past season. Roehl will play at Southwest Minnesota State next season.

Berggren has played this spring for the Howard Pulley Panthers AAU team. He shined in the Kingwood Classic, where he blocked four shots of McDonald's All-American Darrel Arthur.

Berggren said that the Wisconsin offer was his first.

"I went to the team camp and took an unofficial visit and talked to coach Bo Ryan," he said.

Berggren will play in the Mid American Camp in Atchinson, Kan., July 5-9 and will be with the Howard Pulley team at the Peach Jam in Augusta, the AAU nationals in Orlando and at the Price Chopper in Kansas City.

Berggren said that he is lifting weights four times a week.

"I'm working on my agility and shooting every day," he said.

Berggren said that he is between 6-foot-9 and 6-foot-10. He said that he has not grown recently, but his feet have.

"I just went up to a size 16."

His father is 6-foot-5 and his mother is 5-foot-11.

Berggren said that he is also hearing from Minnesota, Iowa State, Miami, Cincinnati, Georgetown, North Dakota State and Purdue.
