Two Minnesota AAU teams advance in Vegas

Two Minnesota AAU teams advanced in playoff action in Las Vegas as GoldenSports.Net caught the latest action in the Big Time and adidas Super 64 tournaments. Minnesota Magic advanced to the final 32 in the Big Time, while 43 Hoops won their playoff opener in the adidas event.

Blake Hoffarber continued his strong play as he scored 53 points in two playoffs wins. He made seven three-pointers as he scored 31 points in their 80-60 win over the NJ Roadrunners. Alex Rubin, who is headed to Illinois State, added four three-pointers as he scored 19. Eric Carlson, who had scored in double figures in all three pool play games, added 10 points. Jon Leuer, who has attracted the most recruiting attention, was just two of nine from the field as he scored just five points.

Hoffarber had 22 points in their 64-49 win over Arizona Rage Aread to advance to the Final 32. Leuer had his best game of Vegas, as he chipped in 15. The Magic face AFE Wizards (MI) Tuesday at 1:00.

43 Hoops 16-and-under team defeated Compton Magic 64-62 in their first playoff game as Anthony Tucker scored 15 points. Sedric McBounds added 14 and C.J. Erickson added 13 points.

Two former Minnesota AAU standouts are playing for out-of-state teams in Las Vegas.

Cole Aldrich is playing for Fox Valley Skillz (WI) and was just two of eight from the field and one of seven from the line as he finished with just five points in a 63-48 win over the Tulsa Titans. However, he did finish with 10 boards. Fox Valley lost their second playoff tilt 74-71 to Team Breakdown despite a tournament-high 24 points from Aldrich who was 11-of-17 from the field.

Trevor Mbakwe had just five points and five rebounds in Worldwide Renegades 81-68 win over the Jersey Hot Shots. They advanced to the Final 32 with an easy 84-49 win over Force to play Team Breakdown. Mbakwe was limited to just five points and six rebounds.

Grassroot Hoops, a team led mostly by former Minnesota prep school players, defeated Arizona Magic Blue 71-69 as Deonte Roberts scored 24 points. Marcus Hill added 15 and Lee Stephens scored 14 points. However, they fell 64-62 to the Chicago Jaguars in the second round. Roberts had 18 points while Marcus Hill had 14 and A.J. Wilson added 10.
