Four Local Teams Represent State in Nationals

Four Minnesota teams are representing the state in the AAU Nationals in Orlando, Fla. They are the Minneapolis Iceman, Minnesota Magic Gold, Minnesota Glory and Minnesota Magic Elite. The four squads combined to go 6-6 in pool play Thursday and Friday.

The Minnesota Magic Gold and Minnesota Magic Elite were both 2-1 and the Minneapolis Iceman and Minnesota Glory finished 1-2.

The Minnesota Magic Elite fell 75-72 to Gold Coast Florida United as Jon Leuer scored 18 points, Blake Hoffarber had 17 and Alex Rubin added eight points.

They bounced back to defeat MBR Org. 2 77-72 in overtime. Eric Carlson and Hoffarber finished with 15 points each. Leuer had 13 and Minnesota commit Al Nolen added nine. Rubin chipped in with eight points.

The Minnesota Magic Elite advnaced to the playoffs as they will face the Barton Ballas (Florida), the winner of Pool Y at 2:30 Saturday.

The Minnesota Magic Gold defeated the Durham Flames 81-68 and the Georgia Warriors 61-46 on Thursday before falling to the Kentucky Warriors 83-68.

The Minnesota Magic Gold face the Alabama Challenge, the winner of Pool M at 11:30 Saturday.

The Minneapolis Iceman defeated Pittsburgh Team Adidas 63-61 before losing 71-48 to the Long Island Lightning and 66-48 to the Chicago Jaguars.

The Minnesota Glory defeated the Philadelphia Patriots Red 57-53 in their opener, but lost to Nike Team Florida 87-68 and the North Carolina Gaters 69-51.
