Jared Berggren Enjoys Minnesota Visit

Jared Berggren, a 6-foot-10 junior center from Princeton (MN) High, made an unofficial visit to Minnesota last weekend. Berggren averaged 10.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game as a sophomore and has already received a scholarship offer from the Gophers and five other teams. Golden Sports.Net caught up with his head coach, Eric Bjurman, to find the latest on his recruitment.

Jared Berggren has received scholarship offers from Minnesota, WisconsinIowa State, Purdue, Miami of Florida and Montana, according to Princeton head coach Eric Bjurman. Berggren visited Minnesota this past weekend, said Bjurman.
"It went well. He had a good time and enjoyed himself. He went to the football game Saturday."
Berggren is gaining plenty of recruiting interest, according to Bjurman.
"He is getting letters from everyone. Cincinnati is calling quite a bit. He's getting letters from just about everybody. Purdue head coach Matt Painter and an assistant from Virginia were here last week. Minnesota assistant Bill Walker and a Western Michigan assistant will be here Wednesday. He knows the difference fron sending letters and making a visit, which shows a commitment."
Bjurman does not think that his standout big man will make a college decision in the near future.
"He is keeping everything open and has not eliminated anyone. I think that he'll wait until maybe next September and make an educated decision on  where he wants to go."
Bjurman thinks that Princeton will be strong this season, despite the losses to graduation.
"We are cautiously optimisitic. The posts are good and we should have good guard play. We have a chance to be good."
Bjurman said that Gopher fans will get a few chance to check out on one of their top recruiting prospects from the Class of 2008.
"We play Chisago Lakes on December 5th at the Target Center and play at Buffalo. We are playing in the St. Thomas Jamboree November 25th. We were orignally playing Bloomington Jefferson (led by Kansas commitment Cole Aldrich), but they might not come, so we could face St. Bernard's (led by Trevor Mbakwe)."
