Duane Bennett Commits to Minnesota

Duane Bennett, a 5-foot-10, 197-pound running back/defensive back from O'Fallon (IL) Township, has committed to Minnesota, according to sources close to his recruitment. Bennett visited Minnesota for the Gopher-Michigan game last weekend.

Duane Bennett led the Panthers to a 5-5 mark as a junior as he rushed 112 times for 993 yards with 12 touchdowns.

Bennett is having an outstanding senior campaign as he has rushed 121 times for 855 yards with 17 scores as the Panthers are off to a 4-2 start. They face Granite City tonight.

Bennett started the season with seven carries for 86 yards in an easy 42-0 win over Pekin in the season opener. He scored on a 38-yard fumble recovery, a 87-yard punt return and a 65- and 5-yard run.

Bennett had all three touchdowns in a 28-21 loss to Hazelwood Central in double overtime in the Panthers' second game. He scored rushes of 3, 2 and 10 yards. Bennett had 29 carries for 137 yards.

Bennett scored three times in their 45-21 win over Collinsville. He had a 2-yard run, a 79-yard punt return and 88-yard reception for touchdowns. He finished with 13 carries for 53 yards.

Bennett 3-, 12- and 79-yard touchdown runs in a 27-14 win over Belleville West as he finished with 25 carries for 259 yards.

Bennett scored on a 27- and 70-yard touchdown run in a 27-13 win over Belleville East as he finished with 16 carries for 161 yards.

Bennett had 31 carries for 159 yards in a 24-21 loss to East St. Louis last week. He scored on a 46- and 10-yard run.

Bennett is the 16th player to commit to Minnesota.

Bennett picked Minnesota over offers from Missouri, Northern Illinois and Miami of Ohio.
