Illinois Speedster Likes Minnesota

Bob McLearn had 15 sacks as a junior and he won the Illinois (Football) Fastest Man competition with a blistering 4.25 in the 40-yard dash. McLearn names his early favorites.

Bob McLearn, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound, defensive back from Wheaton (Ill.) North is a prospect to watch in 2002.

McLearn has something that can't be taught. He ran a 4.25 40-yard dash in the Illinois Fastest Man competition.

"I don't have any offers yet." McLearn said. "I'm hearing from a lot of the Big Ten and MAC schools.

"My favorites are Penn State, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Northern Illinois."

McLearn is one of four prospects from Wheaton North that could sign D-1 letters of intent come February.

Offensive lineman Akim Millington, quarterback Zach Ulrich and WR Dareon Spencer all have D-1 talent.

McLearn played defensive end as a junior and had 75 tackles and 15 sacks. He'll move to an outside linebacker position in 2002.

If McLearn can show that he can play in space, he may end up at a major D-1 school. With 4.3 speed he could easily play safety or cornerback.
