Ex-Gopher Stanley Gaines Shines at Seton Hall

Forward Stanley Gaines left Minnesota after starting 17 contests as a sophomore as the Gophers finished just 12-18, winning only three Big Ten games. Gaines averaged 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game and was the team's defensive stopper. Gaines transferred to Seton Hall and averaged 5.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest last season and is having the best season of his career this year.

Stanley Gaines is averaging 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as the Pirates are off to a 7-2 start. He has started in all nine games this season.

Gaines was a former high school teammate of Justin Cerasoli at Chicago (IL) Providence St. Mel. Cerasoli, who the Gophers recruited, later transferred to Aurora (IL) West Aurora for his junior and senior season and wound up at Seton Hall. Cerasoli transferred to Mississippi after his freshman season and recently left the Rebel's program earlier this month.

Gaines' high school coach Billy Garrett was an Seton Hall assistant coach.

Gaines has scored in double figures in five of his nine games this season. Ironically, his worst game of the year, was against Big Ten school Penn State. He missed all four shots from the field and finished with just one point.
