Rodney Williams Jr. Gets Major Interest

Rodney Williams Jr., a 6-foot-6, 185-pound sophomore forward from Robbinsdale (MN) Cooper, has drawn considerable interest from high major programs, according to his high school coach Kurt Paulty. The Hawks are off to a 16-3 start this season and Williams is averaging 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots and 2.5 assists per game.

Paulty said that Rodney Williams Jr. is hearing from Kansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State and Western Michigan among others.

Paulty said that Kansas assistant coach Joe Dooley attended on their recent games and that Wisconsin likes him a lot. He and Williams will go to Madison to watch the Badgers face Iowa Saturday.

Minnesota has shown interest in Williams, despite question about their head coach.

"He is waiting on Minnesota's situation."

Paulty think that Williams can play at a very high level, especially if he takes care of his academics.

"He is at best a "C" student, If he gets his academics taken care of, he'll go some place big."

Paulty think that Williams has great potential.

"I think that next year, he will be one of the top three players in the state. He just needs to get stronger. Strength is a big thing. He needs to improve his defense, to understand team defense. Defense comes with maturity. His shot has improved as has his shooting range and he needs to continue to improve his ballhandling."

"However, he has god-given talent. He can jump out of the gym and is long. He is a young sophomore at just 15. He does not turn 16 until July and will graduate at 17."
