Blake Hoffarber Excited about Tubby Smith

Blake Hoffarber, a 6-foot-3 senior guard from Hopkins who signed with Minnesota in the early signing period, was named GoldenSports.Net Metro Player of the Year after averaging 25.2 points per game this year. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Hoffarber to learn his reaction to the hiring of new Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith.

Blake Hoffarber saw his high school career end with a 31-point performance versus Minnetonka as the Royals were upset by the Skippers 55-53 March 13.

Hoffarber committed to Minnesota in September, picking the Gophers over Notre Dame and Vanderbilt.

Hoffarber said that he heard the news of Tubby Smith being hired as the new head coach at around 2:30.

"I'm excited, I'm just letting it sink in," he said.

Smith has been known as a head coach who utilize the Rick Pitino style of offense, emphasizing the three-point shot, wshich is Hoffarber's strength.

"That is what I've heard. I'm excited. I have not heard from Caoch Smith yet, but I'm looking forward to talking to him," Hoffarber said.

Hoffarber was invited to play in Coachers' All-State Game series later this month, but had to decline the invitation due to travel plans for spring break.
