John Nance Becomes Seventh Gopher Commit

John Nance, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound wide receiver/quarterback from St. Paul (MN) Cretin Derham Hall, has become the latest Minnesota product to commit to the Gophers. Nance helped lead to a 10-1 mark and runner-up finish in Section 4, Class AAAAA last year. Nance is the sixth in-state player to commit to Minnesota.

John Nance caught 11 passes for 138 yards (12.5 yards per reception) as a junior. He doubled as the team's quarterback as a sophomore when Joe Springer was sidelined with an injury and is expected to receive playing time under center with Springer graduating and moving onto Brown University.

Nance will join teammate Shady Salamon as a Gopher commitment. Minnesota is also recruiting teammates Michael Floyd, a standout wide receiver, and offensive lineman Joe Schafer.

Nance is also a standout basketball player for the Raiders. He helped lead Cretin to a 21-8 mark this season, losing to Woodbury in the section championship game. Nance was named third-team All-Metro by Minneapolis Star Tribune after averaging 14.7 points per game this season. Nance scored in double figures in 20 of his 23 games and had five games of 20 or more points,. He played for the Minnesota Magic AAU program last year and had received some low major Division I basketball interest.
