Juco DT Serge Elizee has left Minnesota

Serge Elizee, a 6-foot-1, 310-pound defensive tackle from College of Sequoias (CA) CC, has left the Minnesota Gophers football team and has received his release. GoldenSports.Net spoke with Elizee Friday to learn the latest.

Serge Elizee played in six games in 2006 and finished with 4.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks. He recorded 17 tackles on the season, forced one fumble and had one interception.

Elizee signed with Minnesota in December and began classes in January. He partcipated in spring practice and was expected to play a big role for the Gopher defense.

GoldenSports.Net spoke with Elizee to learn the latest.

"I got my release from Minnesota this past week. I wanted to major in business, but they wouldn't let me get into the business school and they wanted me to change my major. I said that if I was not going to major in business, I wanted to transfer."

Elizee said that he will likely land at SMU, which finished runner-up for his services this past December.

"I will most likely start classes in the summer. I don't know when I'll be eligible. I will likely have to sit out the year or appeal it to the NCAA. They recruited me hard and said that with my grades I should be getting into business school."

Elizee is the second JC transfer to leave the program. Defensive back Durrell Clark-James left the team after being suspended from participating in spring practice.
