Minnesota Magic Elite Stars Shine in Kansas

The Minnesota Magic Elite Stars finished 3-0 in pool play and won their first-round playoff game to advance to face Minnesota rival Howard Pulley in the second round in the Jayhawk Invitational. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Elite Stars head coach Mike Leuer to get the latest on the team.

The Minnesota Magic Elite Stars defeated Arizona Premier 38-35 in the first game as David Hanson of Maranatha scored seven points and Nick Haugan of Rockford added six.

They defeated Team Missouri 47-38 as Jake Lindstrom of Park of Cottage Grove had 13 points. Hanson added 10 points and six rebounds and Bobby Fong of Bloomington Kennedy added eight points.

They bested the Missouri Titans 63-53 Saturday evening as Lindstrom scored 19. Hanson had 12 points and six rebounds. Aaron Barmore of Bloomington Jefferson also finished with 12 points.

The Minnesota Magic Elite Stars upset Athletes First 50-48 in double overtime as Nick Haugan scored at the buzzer. He finished with 16 points. Hanson had eight points and eight rebounds and Lindstrom also had eight points. Fong added seven points and Anthony Di'Loreto of Hopkins had four points and eight rebounds. Mike Leuer also praised the efforts of Jordan Nelson of Maple Grove, who did some of the little things necessary for a team victory. The Elite Stars used a zone in the first half and box-and-one in the second half to slow down standout sophomore Xavier Henry.

Howard Pulley Black finished 4-0 in pool play and got a first-round playoff bye. The Howard Pulley 17's are 2-1. The Howard Pulley Black 16's are 2-1, while the 16's White is 1-2. The 15-and-under team is 2-2.
