Georgia F Toby Veal Gets Minnesota Interest

Toby Veal, a 6-foot-7 combination forward from Savannah (GA) Johnson, is getting plenty of recruiting intertest after a strong spring with Team Georgia Elite. Minnesota has picked up their interest level in Veal, according to his AAU coach Curtis Wheeler.

Toby Veal averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds per game last season for Johnson. He played well for Team Georgia Elite in the recent Kingwood Classic and Real Deal on the Hill Tournaments.

He is hearing from schools such as Florida State, Kentucky, Minnesota, VCU, Colorado, Alabama and Auburn. His AAU coach Curtis Wheeler said that Veal has gotten increased interest from Minnesota.

"Toby Veal is getting heavy interest from Minnesota," Wheeler said. "Saul Smith has been talking with Toby a lot and Tubby Smith called his high school coach recently. Tubby called Toby Sunday night. He left for France Monday to play with USA Elite with Linzy Davis. Toby has been invited to the Reebok Camp July 6-10."

"I've seen a lot of kids ranked in the top 10, top 25. I think he's a top-50 player at least. At least," Wheeler recently told Jeff Ermann of "He's a run-and-jump athlete. He's a strong kid, plays hard all of the time, finishes with dunks and is a great rebounder. He can also step out and shoot. And he's the best kid to coach."

He is a solid student and will qualify academically.

At Kingwood, Wheeler said Veal posted 25 points and 16 points against five-star power forward Drew Gordon, a UCLA commit. He's spending this summer transitioning from the post to the perimeter.

"I play the post right now but I'm going to college for the ‘three,'" Veal said. "I'm working on my ballhandling."

Veal admitted to that he slightly favors Florida State, but it's one of the few schools he's visited, and he wants to take several more trips.
