Colton Iverson to Get Gopher Offer

Colton Iverson, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound center from Yankton (SD) High, is getting plenty of early interest and that list is likely to grow after he helped lead the South Dakota Heat AAU team to the Hoosier Shootout 17-and-under title. Iverson has several High Division I offers and will add his first Big Ten offer this week as the Gophers will extend a scholarship.

Minnesota assistant coach Ron Jirsa watched Colton Iverson at the Hoosier Shootout and head coach Tubby Smith and son Saul Smith will both watch him Tuesday at the Kentucky Hoopfest.

Iverson averaged 15 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for Yankton, which finished 16-10 and a fifth place finish in the state tournament.

Iverson scored 20 points in the consolation championship as they defeated Mitchell 68-42. He scored 15 points in a 47-37 win over Rapid City Stevens in the consolation semifinals.

Iverson has offers from South Dakota, Colorado State, Washington State, Nebraska, New Mexico, Indiana State, Richmond, Eastern Kentucky, North Dakota State and South Dakota State and interest from Iowa, Iowa State and Creighton.

Iverson will be expected to carry a bigger share of the load next year at Yankton as he is the lone returning starter and they welcome back just three juniors from the varisty roster.
