Stan Simpson Has Minnesota on his Mind

Stan Simpson, a 6-foot-9 big man from Chicago (IL) Simeon, attended the recent LeBron James US Skills. Simpson is getting plenty of attention from several Big Ten schools, including Minnesota. GoldenSports.Net recently talked to Simpson about the latest on his recruitment.

Stan Simpson was named All-Catholic League as a junior as he helped lead Chicago (IL) Leo to a 18-10 mark, losing to eventual state champion Chicago Simeon in Oak Lawn Community Sectional. Ironically, Simpson will play for Simeon this upcoming season. Simpson plays for the Full Package and Illinois Warriors AAU teams.

Simpson said that his top schools are Arkansas, Indiana, Colorado, Minnesota and Florida. He is hoping to visit Colorado Sept. 12 and is hoping to see the other schools in August and September.

"I'm planning on deciding in the beginning of September and signing in the fall," Simpson said.

Simpson said that there will be several deciding factors in what school he chooses.

"I'm looking at academics and coaching and a team that makes me feel like family," he said.

Simpson said that he is somewhat familiar with the Minnesota program and new head coach Tubby Smith.

"I played in Minnesota in the Howard Pulley tournament. I don't know much about the program, but I know that Coach Smith is a good coach who has coached in the Olympics and several NBA players," he said.

Simpson has worked hard in the offseason to improve his all-around game and has demonstrated a good hook shot.

"I have been working out hard, and playing with a good AAU team has gotten me good exposure," he said.

Simpson will play with the Illinois Warriors in the Super Showcase and in the Price Chopper in Kansas City.
