Colton Iverson Drawing Plenty of Interest

Colton Iverson, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound center from Yankton High, has seen his recruitment go through the roof after he led the South Dakota Heat AAU team to the Hoosier Shootout 17-and-under title. Iverson has several high Division I offers and plenty of new schools watched him this week in the Reebok Summer Championship. GoldenSports.Net talked to Iverson about the latest on his recruitment,

Colton Iverson averaged 15 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for Yankton, which finished 16-10 and a fifth-place finish in the state tournament.

Iverson scored 20 points in the consolation championship as they defeated Mitchell 68-42. He scored 15 points in a 47-37 win over Rapid City Stevens in the consolation semifinals.

Iverson has offers from South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado State, Washington State, Nebraska, New Mexico, Indiana State, Richmond, Eastern Kentucky, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Iowa, Iowa State and Creighton. Kentucky, UCLA, Marquette, Florida and Wisconsin looked at Iverson in Las Vegas.

Iverosn admitted that much has change in the past month.

"It is getting a little crazy," he said. "I plan to narrow my list right after this tournament."

Iverson said that distance will not be a big factor in the school he picks.

"It doesn't matter. Wherever, I feel most comfortable," he said.

Iverson will be expected to carry a bigger share of the load next year at Yankton as he is the lone returning starter and they welcome back just three juniors from the varisty roster.

Iverson comes from a basketball family. His father is the head girl's coach at Mount Mary, where his sister is a senior. His other sister, a sophomore, plays at South Dakota.
