South Dakota's Colton Iverson Narrows List

Colton Iverson, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound center from Yankton High who had seen his recruitment go through the roof after he led the South Dakota Heat AAU team to the Hoosier Shootout 17-and-under title, has narrowed his list of schools to six. Iverson has set four visits, including one to Minnesota next month.

Colton Iverson averaged 15 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for Yankton, which finished at 16-10 with a fifth-place finish in the state tournament.

Iverson scored 20 points in the consolation championship as they defeated Mitchell 68-42. He scored 15 points in a 47-37 win over Rapid City Stevens in the consolation semifinals.

Iverson shined this summer as a member of the South Dakota Heat AAU team. He helped lead the Heat to the Hoosier Shootout title as he scored 28 points in the championship game and he was named MVP.

Iverson has offers from South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado State, Washington State, Nebraska, New Mexico, Indiana State, Richmond, Eastern Kentucky, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Iowa, UCLA, Marquette, Florida, Iowa State, and Creighton. However, he has narrowed his list to six schools and will visit four, according to South Dakota Heat's Steve Friesen

Iverson will visit Florida next weekend; Iowa State from August 30 to September 1; Minnesota from September 7-9; and Nebraska September 14-16. He does not plan to take an official visit to Iowa and Creighton, but he could visit the campuses unofficially.

Iverson previously told GoldenSports.Net that distance will not be a big factor in the school he picks.

"It doesn't matter. Wherever I feel most comfortable," he said.

Iverson will be expected to carry a bigger share of the load next year at Yankton as he is the lone returning starter and they welcome back just three juniors from the varisty roster.

Iverson comes from a basketball family. His father is the head girl's coach at Mount Mary, where his sister is a senior. His other sister, a sophomore, plays at South Dakota.
