Amir Pinnix is Offensive Player of the Week

Amir Pinnix, a senior running back, was named Steakhouse's Gopher Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the season opener versus Bowling Green. Pinnix rushed 28 times for 168 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Gophers lost in the season finale, falling 32-31 in overtime. The Minnesota Gophers amassed 434 yards of total offense, including 246 on the ground.

Amir Pinnix, who won the Steakhouse Gopher Offensive Player of the Week, scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 21-7. Pinnix scored his second touchdown of the game with a 23-yard score in overtime to put Minnesota ahead 31-24 before Bowling Green countered with a touchdown of their own and scored on a two-point conversion for the win.

Pinnix had a 58-yard run in the first half. He became the first Gopher to rush for 100 or more yards in consecutive openers since Laurence Maroney (2004-05). He rushed for 110 yards in the second half as the Gophers rallied from a 21-0 halftime deficit.

Pinnix went over 2,000 yards in his career (2,044) and is currently 12th in Minnesota school history. He has rushed for more than 100 yards in his last four games and is second in the Big Ten and eighth in the country in rushing yards.
