JC Center Orlando Allen to Visit Minnesota

Orlando Allen, a 6-foot-11, 285-pound center from Paris (TX) CC, will visit Minnesota this weekend. Allen received a visit from Gopher assistant coach Vince Taylor Wednesday. Allen averaged only 1.8 points and 2.6 rebounds as a freshman on a sophomore-dominated team, but his strong showing at the Jerry Mullen Top 120 JC event in Tulsa in July opened plenty of eyes.

Orlando Allen attended Cincinnati Woodward High and committed to play at Seton Hall for former Cincinnati native Louie Orr. However, when Orr was fired as the Pirates' head coach, Allen decided to re-open his recruitment.

Allen missed eight games with injuries last season on a team that had three double-figure scorers and four other players who scored eight or more points per game.

Allen visited Nebraska and Oklahoma the past two weekends and will visit Minnesota this week, along with Southwestern Illinois CC guard Devron Bostick.

Allen wants to play at the highest level possible and fellow Big Twelve schools Baylor and Oklahoma State are still involved in his recruitment. Bowling Green, which has former Seton Hall head coach Louie Orr and assistant George Jackson on their current coaching staff, is a possibility, if none of the big schools pull the trigger on Allen. Jackson was a legendary Cincinnati high school coach, who coached Brandon Hunter of the Charlotte Bobcats and former NBA players Tyrone Hill and Ricky Calloway in high school.

Ironically, Minnesota assistant coach Vince Taylor and Orr were teammates with the New York Knicks.
