Scottie Haralson to Visit Minnesota This Week

Scottie Haralson, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound shooting guard from Jackson (MS) Provine, will visit Minnesota this weekend along with Josh Crittle of Hales Francisan. Haralson attended the LeBron James Skills Academy this summer and attracted the attention of Gopher head coach Tubby Smith and his staff. Smith made a home visit to Haralson last month.

Scottie Haralson led Provine to a 25-8 mark last season and a Class 5A title as the Rams defeated Forest Hill 59-54. Haralson, the team's only returning starter from their 2005-06 team, averaged 24.4 points per game as a junior.

The Rams have plenty of returning talent and size this season in 6-foot-6 sophomore Jalen Courtney and 6-foot-7 sophomore Stephon Smith and 6-foot-6 junior Emery Kelly.

Provine started last season slowly as they got off to a 3-5 start, including a 91-57 loss to Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill Academy before going on two five-game winning streak and a ten-game streak.

Haralson scored 20 points as the North beat the South 117-86 in the Mississippi high school boys all-star basketball game in July. He was named Offensive Most Valuable Player.

Haralson is an excellent student with a 3.8 GPA. He played this spring and summer with the Jackson Tigers AAU team.

Haralson is getting interest from schools such as Mississippi State, Fresno State, UAB, Tulane, Georgia State, Tennessee and South Alabama.

Haralson has a high opinion of Minnesota and their coaching staff as he told Jason Parten of Hoopmasters.

"Coach Smith is recruiting me very hard, and he tells me that I can be a big part of what he is building at Minnesota," he said. "Minnesota really sticks out to me at this point, but I am going take my time with the process.

"I just want to go to a program where I can go in and help out immediately, and I want to be able to get a good education as well." Haralson said. "But most of all I want to go to a place where I can trust the coaches, and just feel comfortable around them."
