Cooper JR Rodney Williams Talks Recruiting

Junior Rodney Williams Jr., a 6-foot-5, 180-pound forward from Robbinsdale (MN) Cooper, is one of the top players in the state of Minnesota's junior class and is getting heavy interest from the Gopher coaching staff. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Williams to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Rodney Williams Jr. averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.4 blocked shots and 2.3 assists per game as he led the Hawks to a 21-7 record this season.

Williams is playing with his Cooper teammates in the Minnetonka Fall League, where GoldenSports.Net caught up with him Sunday.

Anything new on the recruiting front?

"Nothing new, really. No new offers."

Do you have a top five yet?

"I don't a top yet. Coming soon."

How soon?

"This summer."

What schools are you hearing from the most?

"Miami, Minnesota, Iowa State and Wisconsin. Those are the main ones I am hearing from right now."

Have you visited any campuses lately?

"I visited Iowa State a little earlier this school year."

What is your feeling about Minnesota? Have you talked to Royce White about you both ending up there?

"I have not really talked to Royce this much this year, but we have talked about going to the same school for a long time now. I like the U though. My parents want me to go there. I'm not sure yet."

What is your feeling about Coach Smith and the coaching staff?

"I like them. They are really nice people. I have not watched them play yet. I have not seen them in Minnesota, but I know at Kentucky they had a good coaching staff that won a lot of games."

What are your expectations for Cooper this year?

"We should win the conference and I think that we should go to state.

What things are you trying to work on as a player?

"My ballhandling and my defense."
