Devron Bostick Scores 37 in Blue Storm Win

Gopher basketball signee Devron Bostick scored 37 points to lead all scorers and pace the NJCAA's #7 ranked Southwestern Illinois (2-0) over #26 ranked Mineral Area (3-2) 86-83 Thursday.

In a battle of pre-season ranked teams, Southwestern Illinois edged the Cardinals, 86-83, snapping their three-game win streak. SWIC scored the first six points of the contest and never trailed. The closest Mineral Area came was one point twice, once with the first basket of the second half to make the score 40-39 and later after 6-2 freshman Gerald Fulton hit a trey to close the gap to 83-82.

Devron Bostick was immediately fouled and hit two free throws for the Blue Storm. With 4.2 seconds left, the Cardinal's Jerwin Callaway was fouled while attempting a tying three-pointer that missed. Callaway made the first, then had time called by SWIC. His second attempt failed, forcing him to purposely miss the third. Unfortunately, he left the line too early on the shot for a lane violation.

Bostick was again fouled with 3.5 seconds to go. He hit the second of the two free tosses, giving Mineral Area a last chance to tie. However, a running trey by 5-11 freshman Sean Scott missed as time expired.

Josh Harrellson, a 6-foot-9 freshman, added 16 points before fouling out. Co-captain Joey Parker added 11 points.
