Verdell Jones leads Central to Playoffs

Verdell Jones, a 6-foot-4 point guard from Champaign (IL) Central and visited Minnesota earlier in October, is having an outstanding senior season. Jones recently announced his final three schools: Minnesota, Kentucky and Tennessee. Central faces Danville in the first round of the Champaign Centennal Regional. They beat Danville twice this season, including in the season finale.

Verdell Jones is the No. 2 uncommitted point guard, according to Jones is averaging 17.9 points, 6.3 assists, five rebounds and 1.8 steals per game as he has led the Maroons to a 17-9 mark. Jones has shined, despite injury problems. Despite playing with two broken fingers earlier this season, he managed to score 28 points in a loss to LaFlore (Ala.). Jones bounced back from an ankle injury to score 11 points in the season finale versus Danville.

If Central beats Danville Wednesday, they would likely face top seed Champaign Centennial, a team they defeated 73-51 on the road and lost to 74-69 at home, Friday night.
