Minnesota to Face Maryland in N.I.T. Opener

The Minnesota men's basketball team will face Maryland at home in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament. The Gophers, who won 20 games for the first time since 2004-05 campaign, will enter the tournament as a No. 4 seed and host No. 5 seed Maryland Tuesday night at Williams Arena.

Tickets for the first-round game, which tips at 8:30 p.m. (CDT), are available for purchase immediately via Minnesota's official athletics website, www.gophersports.com. The Minnesota Athletics Ticket office will begin selling tickets over the phone at 612-624-8080 or 1-800-U-GOPHER and in person at the Mariucci Arena box office Monday morning at 9 a.m. Tickets are priced at $5 for student general admission and $20 for reserved seats.

The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is the oldest tournament in college basketball. The NIT was started in 1938. It was the first national postseason collegiate tournament to be played in the country.

Minnesota is making its 11th appearance in the postseason NIT. The Gophers own an all-time record of 18-10 in the tournament.
