Kyle Risinger Gets Gopher Interest

Kyle Risinger, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound safety from Minnetonka (MN) High, attended the Minnesota Gopher junior day and is one of the state's top two-sports athletes in the Class of 2009. Risinger helped lead the Skippers to a Class AAAA state title in basketball Saturday and the football team to a 5-5 mark. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Risinger to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Kyle Risinger attended the Minnesota junior day, but said that his hectic basketball schedule has prevented him from making many visits.

"No, I haven't because of basketball. Over spring break next week, I am going to visit Indiana and go to one of their practices. I am going to go to Purdue in the same week and then on the way down there I am going to go visit Valparaiso for basketball. I am going to make some stops and we have some family in Indiana."

Risinger is going to play for 43 Hoops AAU program this summer. He plans on playing in several big basketball events, while still attending several football camps.

"I thought a little bit about it. I am going to go the Iowa one-day camp and I had some other schools invite me to camps, but it is tough with AAUs. A lot of the camps are at the same time. I have to sit down with my AAU coaches and my parents and figure out what I am going to do."

Risinger said that he is also hearing from several other top programs.

"I'm hearing from Ohio State a little bit, Penn State and Minnesota and Wisconsin."

Risinger said that it is tough to get in football shape while playing basketball.

"It is tough to bulk up, due to all the running. I do what I can. I lift every other day."

Minnetonka is annually one of the top football programs in the state, but had a disappointing 2007-08 season by their standards.

"I think that we will be pretty good. We have a lot of solid players coming back and we have a lot of players who did not see the field coming up. We had a pretty good JV team. We have the exact same schedule and I think that we have a lot of experience coming back. I think that we should be in pretty good shape."
