Illinois T Ben Samson Gets Minnesota Interest

Ben Samson, a 6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive tackle from Lincolnshire (IL) Adalai Stevenson, attended the Minnesota spring game. Samson is getting plenty of Midwest interest, but is still waiting on his first scholarship offer. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Samson to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Ben Samson helped lead the Patroits to a 5-5 mark this past season after going 8-3 as a sophomore. Samson was a honorable mention all-conference choice this past season.

Samson said that he is hearing from Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan State , Northwestern, Iowa, Alabama and several Mid-American Conference and Ivy League schools.

He has attended junior days at Miami of Ohio, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Northwestern, Northern Illinois, Michigan State, Indiana and Purdue.

Samson has a busy weekend planned as he is flying back home Saturday to attend the Northwestern spring game. He has already been to the Northern Illinois and Michigan State spring contests.

Samson helped lead Stevenson to a 5-5 mark this past season.

"We came together as a team," he said. "I think that we can go very far, maybe a state championship. We have a lot of players coming back. We have 15 returning starters, including our quarterback."

Samson recently stopped playing hockey after playing for 11 years, but still throws the shot put and discus. His best tosses were 43-2 in the shot and 111 in the discus.

Samson figures to have a busy summer attending football camps.

"I'm planning on going to Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Iowa and to the East Coast to check out one or two Ivy League schools," he said.

Samson said that he did not have a favorite school growing up.

"I went to a couple of Northwestern games, but I grew up more of a pro fan, watching the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks."

Samson said that he enjoyed checking out the Minnesota campus.

"They have beautiful facilities. I really liked it a lot," he said.
