Sabes Foundation Basketball Invitational Info

The 8th Annual Sabes Foundation Basketball Invitational will be held at Bloomington Jefferson this weekend. Teams from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin will participate. Several nationally ranked players will compete, including many of Minnesota's best. The event will include 17U, 16U and 15U teams and starts Friday and goes through Sunday.

The 17U Howard Pulley Black have started the spring/summer 2008 AAU basketball season by defeating some of the best teams in America. They finished 3-1 in the Nike Boo Williams Spring Invitational, won the Kingwood Classic Platinum Division Championship and lost in the semifinals of the Jayhawk Invitational this past weekend. They are 15-2 so far this season.

Members of the team include Mike Broghammer (Hopkins), Minnesota commit Royce White (Hopkins), Rodney Williams Jr. (Osseo), Marcus Williams (Hopkins), Carrington Tankson (Osseo), Mike Fitzgerald (St. Thomas Academy), Zach Towle (Concordia Academy), Dylan Hale (St. Paul Central), Cedric Martin (Washubrn) and sophomore Seantrell Henderson (Cretin Derham Hall). The team is coached by Antwan Harris, who was named the 2007 coach of the USA National Junior basketball.

The Howard Pulley Black is joined in Pool A by the Chicago Demons, ECI Elite and Iowa Attack Black.

POOL B is led by Madison Spartans, K.C. Cowboys, STP Grassroots and RBS All Stars. The Madison Spartans are led by recent Wisconsin commit Vander Blue and David Brown, a 6-foot-3 junior guard from Rockford (IL) Hononegah who has offers from DePaul, Loyola, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Eastern Illinois.

POOL C features the Illinois Warriors, Iowa Attack Red, Howard Pulley White and Team Missouri. The Illinois Warriors are led by D.J. Richardson, an Illinois commit, and 6-foot-10 Delino Deer. Iowa Attack Red features Reece Uhlenhopp, Eric May, Jesse Pritchard, Bubu Palo and Tyler Stumme. Howard Pulley White has Thomas Cunningham (Minneapolis North), Ra'Shede Hageman (Washburn), Jordan Hughes (Patrick Henry), Marques Johnson (Saint Paul-Arlington), Kyle Kreklow (Blaine), Dierra Martin (Mpls North), Tommy Sawatzke (Monticello), Dyami Starks (Duluth East) and Moses Sundufu (Hopkins).

POOL D has K.C. Pump N Run, Comets Elite, Dakota Schoolers and the Minnesota School of Business Roadrunners.

K.C. Pump N Run won the Jayhawk Invitational for the fourth straight year last weekend and won the Next Level tourney the previous weekend in Dallas. They are led by Michael Dixon, who has offers from Missouri, California, Kansas State, Arkansas, Louisville, Marquette, Oklahoma and Purdue. Jayhawk Invitational MVP Justin Clark was named second team Kansas City Star All-Metro after averaging 25.6 points per game. He is getting looks from Baylor, Clemson, Marquette, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech and Missouri. Jeff Reid has an offer from Kansas State.

The Dakota Schoolers feature high-scoring guard Mike Felt from Redwood Valley, South Dakota State commitments Chad White and Tony Fiegen from Madison, and Cody Larson, a 6-foot-8 forward from Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

The Minnesota School of Basketball Roadrunners is coached by former Minnesota Gopher Mitch Ohnstad. They are led by Josh Zitzmann and David Steege of Farmington, 6-foot-8 Mike Muscala from Roseville and David Berthene of Lakeville North.
