Matt Garin Gets Gopher Offer

Matt Garin, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end from Apple Valley (MN) Eastview who attended the Minnesota spring game, has picked up an offer from the Gophers. Garin has picked up 10 Division I offers. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Matt's father, Dave, to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Matt Garin was named Associated Press second-team after leading the Lightning to the Prep Bowl semifinals and an 11-2 mark. Garin was the team's leading tackler from the defensive end position.

Garin's father, Dave, played high school football at Bloomington Kennedy. He played at St. Thomas University, Normandale Community College and UNLV.

Matt Garin has scholarship offers from Washington State, Oregon State, Air Force, Stanford, Western Michigan, Colorado, Arizona State and most recently Minnesota and Boise State. He is getting interest from Mississippi, Indiana and West Virginia. The Mountaineers are thought to be close to offering, according to Dave.

Garin attended junior days at Minnesota and Northern Illinois. He plans to attend the Nike Combine in Palo Alto next month and will visit the Stanford campus. He hopes to visit Colorado and Air Force at the end of May and Arizona State in June.

His father previously told GoldenSports.Net that Garin was starting to schedule one-day football camps this summer, such as Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. However, they have decided to only attend non-contact camps to "keep him from getting hurt," and focusing on camps that feature footwork.

Garin also plays on the Eastview lacrosse team that is off to an 8-1 start. They face Bloomington Kennedy tonight and are ranked second in the state.

Eastview has produced Gopher players John Shevlin, Ryan Ruckdashel and Jason Meinke.
