Sabes Invitational Day One Recap

The 8th Annual Sabes Foundation Basketball Invitational began Friday night with teams from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin participating. The event features 17U, 16U and 15U teams and runs through Sunday.

The Howard Pulley Black defeated the Iowa Attack Black, 86-71, in a game that was much closer than the final indicates. Iowa Attack used just six players as they were without star Harrison Barnes, who had a track meet and will rejoin the team Saturday, and A.J. Derby, out with a broken finger, but held a 39-30 halftime lead before they faded in the second half.

Minnesota commit Royce White led Pulley with 14 points. White showed off a new Mohawk haircut with a capital "M" on the back of his head. Sophomore Seantrell Henderson had 12 points and Mike Fitzgerald scored 11. Mike Broghammer and Rodney Williams Jr. had 10 points each in the win. Marcus Williams had nine, Dylan Hale while Cedric Martin scored seven each and Zach Towle had six points. Carrington Tankson was held scoreless.

Riley Stuve led all scorers with 19 points and Zach McCabe added 13 points.

The Madison Spartans pulled out of the tournament and Team Train took their place. RBS defeated them, although the score was listed at 15-0.

There were several top performers in the 16-and-under bracket.

Howard Pulley Black defeated ECI Elite 83-54 as Jacob Thomas scored 21, Marvin Singleton added 16 and Marcus Alipate had 15.

Recent Wisconsin commit Vander Blue had 21 to lead the Madison Spartans to a 58-51 over the K.C. Pump N Run 15's.

The Illinois Warriors defeated the Howard Pulley Black 15's 82-72, despite 27 points from Nick Latzke.
