WR Tray Herndon Released from Scholarship

University of Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster announced Monday that wide receiver Tray Herndon has been granted a release from his scholarship.

"We appreciate the contribution Tray Herndon made last year as a true freshman," head football coach Tim Brewster said. "We wish him nothing but the best as he moves forward in his playing career."

Herndon appeared in all 12 games for the Gophers last season, with seven starts. He caught 22 passes for 235 yards and one touchdown.

Herndon finished fourth on the team in receptions and third in receiving yards. The Gophers will also be without second-leading receiver Ernie Wheelwright, who graduated. Wheelwright caught 66 passes for 775 yards and nine touchdowns.
