Marcus Williams Getting Looks in Two Sports

Marcus Williams, a 6-foot, 180-pounder from Minnetonka (MN) Hopkins, is one of the top two-sport athletes in the state. Williams is getting recruiting interest in football and basketball and attended the Minnesota Gopher football camp. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Williams to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Marcus Williams helped lead the Royals to a 5-5 mark this past season, losing to Eden Prairie 56-14 in the second round of the playoffs. He caught 36 passes for 504 yards and rushed 22 times for 129 yard and three scores. Williams had 52 solo tackles and 27 assists as a defensive back and had one interception.

Williams has had a busy summer, splitting time between football camp and playing AAU basketball with Howard Pulley.

"I went to the Minnesota camp," he said. "I played in the All-American Camp in North Carolina. I plan on going to Illinois in July and Wisconsin and Iowa."

Williams, who runs a 4.4 40-yard dash, said that he is getting looks as a defensive back, both at cornerback and safety.

Williams averaged 7.8 points per game as a junior, leading the Royals to a 27-2 mark on the hardwood, losing twice to state champion Minnetonka.

Williams scored in double figures in eight games, including a season-high 19 points versus Robbinsdale Armstrong.

He is getting plenty of mid-major looks in basketball.

"I'm hearing from Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, Western Michigan, Utah State and Santa Clara," he said.
