Texas RB Eric Stephens Commits to Minnesota

Eric Stephens, a 5-foot-8, 177-pound running back from Mansfield (TX) Timberview, has committed to Minnesota, according to sources close to the program. Stephens visited Minnesota earlier this week and made the decision after returning home. Stephens had 202 carries for 1,906 yards and 23 touchdowns last season.

Eric Stephens transferred from Arlington Sam Houston, where he rushed for 1,291 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.

Stephens was the Class 5A District 4 All-District Offensive MVP last season as he led the Wolves to a 9-4 mark, an improvement from a 5-6 record the previous season. Timberview started the season 1-3 last year and then won eight straight games before falling to Hebron 35-28.

Stephens caught six passes for 92 yards and one touchdown and completed one pass for a three-yard gain.

Stephens was also a standout on the track and field team as he competed in the 100 meter (11.43 seconds), 4 x 100 meters (43.0 seconds) and high jump (6-foot-2).

Stephens is the second running back to commit to Minnesota, joining Hasan Lipscomb of Houston (TX) Cypress Ridge HS.

Timberview will open their season August 30th against Georgia state champion Buford in the Kirk Herbstreit Series at Texas Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN.
