Gopher signee Vince Hill could land at Temple

Die-hard Minnesota football fans have been checking the team's roster daily to determine which of the 31 football signees will actually play for the team this fall. The team is allowed to add 28 players. Sam Maresh will grayshirt and Tim McGee is headed to Memphis. Vince Hill is another player that Gopher fans have been curious about and GoldenSports.Net has the latest on Hill's status.

Vince Hill, a 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver, attended Fort Washington (MD) Friendly, signed with Akron after committing to Virginia. Hill helped lead the Patriots to a perfect 14-0 record and the 2006 Maryland Class 3A state title as he finished with 67 receptions for 1,390 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior. He set the Maryland public school record with 43 career touchdowns, and Hill earned All-Metro honors from the Washington Post and was named first-team all-state and second-team All-American by MaxPreps. He was also a first-team All-Prince Georges County pick. Hill caught 42 passes for 879 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior and had 40 receptions for 756 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore.

Hill ended up last season at Milford Academy last season and helped lead the Falcons to an 11-1 record in 2007.

He caught 22 receptions for 332 yards and two touchdowns and was named the Falcons' Offensive Player of the Game following a four-catch, 60-yard, two-touchdown performance at Wagner. He rushed six times for 65 yards. He picked Minnesota over offers from Akron, Temple, Utah, Illinois and Virginia.

However, Hill is not on the team's roster with practice starting next week.

GoldenSports.Net caught up with Milford head football coach Bill Chaplick to learn the latest on Hill's status.

"He was there at camp, but I'm not sure what happened. You would have to talk to them. Minnesota did not call me," he said. "I don't know what happened. He will likely end up at Temple when they open up next week."

Hill was expected to be converted to defensive back from wide receiver by Minnesota.

Hill comes from a football family. Brother, Keith, played cornerback at Bowie State, and brother, Colan, played basketball at Columbia Union. His cousin, Bobby Houston, played with the New York Jets and cousin Roderick Lewis played with the Houston Oilers.
