Minnesota C-F Sam Dower Narrows List to Five

Sam Dower, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound pound senior from Osseo (MN) High who picked up a scholarship offer from Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith Monday night, has narrowed his list of schools to five, according to his AAU coach Marquise Watts. Dower saw his stock rise with a strong showing this summer with the Net Gain Sports AAU program.

Sam Dower helped lead Net Gain to the title in the Twin Cities Summer Classic and won the Gold Division in the adidas Supper 64 in Las Vegas.

Sam Dower led the Orioles to a 28-1 mark, losing to rival Robbinsdale Cooper 60-59 in the section finals. He averaged 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game and scored in double figures in 23 of 29 games this past season, including a 23-point and 10-rebound effort versus Coon Rapids. The Orioles were dominant with just four games within 10 points as they outscored their opponents 76.0 points to 54.8.

Dower will take more of a leadership and scoring role this upcoming season with the loss of leading scorer Carrington Tankson (who is going to San Jacinto CC), Dan Brown (a two-sport standout who is going to Division II St. Thomas) and 7-foot center Zach Peterson (who is headed to Division II Minnesota State Moorhead).

Dower is a skilled left-handed big man who has made great strides in the past year. He needs to continue to get stronger and improve his shotblocking and rebounding consistency.

Dower has scholarship offers from Iowa, California, Penn State, St. Louis, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Gonzaga, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, George Mason, Montana, Marquette, Illinois State, Santa Clara and Drake.

His top five schools are Marquette, Minnesota, California, Gonzaga and George Mason, according to AAU coach Marquise Watts.

Dower will visit Gonzaga September 6-8 and will likely visit George Mason the following weekend.
