Recruiting Affected By Republican Convention

The Minnesota coaching staff had great success last year in getting commitments from players who made official visits during the regular season. The Gophers signed eight of 10 who came for the Ohio State game and six of eight players who attended the Wisconsin contest. The Gophers are hoping to have similar success this year. However, they will not bring players in for this year's season opener.

The Minnesota coaches will not bring in visitors for their season opener against Northern Illinois, due to the Republic National Convention because of a lack of hotel space in the Twin Cities.

The Gophers play Bowling Green on the road in Week Two and will not bring many players the following week against Montana State, which is not a Division I team. They will likely use the following game against Florida Atlantic as their first big opportunity to bring in players for official visits.
