MarQueis Gray Currently Not A Gopher

Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster announced Monday that quarterback MarQueis Gray is not currently with the Gopher football program. Gray, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback from Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis, who played in the U.S. Army All-American Game, was considered the Gophers' top recruit in the Class of 2008. He likely would have been redshirted this season, but is a potential big loss.

MarQueis Gray announced his commitment to Minnesota over Oregon at the U.S. Army All-American Game. Gray received a four-star ranking from, which ranked him as the nation's No. 14 high school quarterback.

Gray missed the majority of his senior season after suffering a broken bone in his non-throwing arm. He saw action in just five games during 2007, including three after returning from the injury.

"MarQueis Gray is not with us at this time, due to an NCAA Eligibility Center issue," Brewster said. "We're hopeful, for MarQueis' sake, that this issue will be resolved."

Speculation is that Gray's ACT score, which was a big improvement from his previous score, raised red flags from the NCAA Clearinghouse. Gray is currently back home in Indianapolis.
