Matt Garin Setting Up Fall Visits

Matt Garin, a 6-foot-4, 223-pound senior defensive end from Apple Valley (MN) Eastview who has a scholarship offer from Minnesota, saw his high school career end with a 33-10 loss to crosstown rival Rosemount in the Class 5A Section 3 finals. GoldenSports.net caught up with Garin Saturday to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Matt Garin led Eastview to a 7-4 mark this season, defeating Bloomington Kennedy and Apple Valley before falling to Rosemount.

Garin was named Associated Press second-team last season after leading the Lightning to the Prep Bowl semifinals and an 11-2 mark. Garin was the team's leading tackler from the defensive end position.

Garin's father, Dave, played high school football at Bloomington Kennedy. He played at St. Thomas University, Normandale Community College and UNLV.

Garin recieved scholarship offers from Washington State, Oregon State, Air Force, Stanford, Western Michigan, Colorado, Arizona State, Minnesota, Boise State and West Virginia.

Garin is still trying to work on his remaining visits after making an official to Colorado earleir thsi fall.

"UCLA wants me to come out to the USC game. West Virginia wants to come next weekend (they face Cincinnati) or I could go to Minnesota for their game against Michigan. I might take my official with Moses (Alipate) in December," he said.

Garin played defensive end for the Lightning and also contributed to their short-yardage package.

Garin also played on the Eastview lacrosse team that advanced to the state semifinals.

Garin is an excellent student with a 3.49 GPA and a 23 ACT score.

Eastview has produced Gophers football players John Shevlin, Ryan Ruckdashel and Jason Meinke.
