Texas DT Joey Searcy Commits to Minnesota

Joey Searcy, a 6-foot-1, 280-pound defensive tackle from Grand Prairie (TX) South Grand Prairie, has committed to Minnesota, according to sources close to his recruitment. Searcy is the third player to commit Sunday to the Gophers after making their official visits over the weekend.

Joey Searcy picked Minnesota over offers from Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State, Central Florida, Utah, Utah State, Arizona and Louisiana Tech.

South Grand Prairie Head Coach Rob Davies recently told Scout.com that Searcy has the potential to be a very good college defensive lineman.

"Joey can play anywhere on the defensive line, but he will likely play inside in college," said Davies. "Joey plays really, really hard and he moves very well. The best part about him is he is a really great person."

Searcy helped lead the Warriors to a 7-3 mark this season, an improvement from a 2-8 record in 2007. However, he was slowed in the the early part of the season with a back injury.
